Flexible Teaching Spaces

Client: Imperial College London

Location: Electrical Engineering department

Our Role: Furniture supplier & installation

The project

Imperial College London aimed to modernise its teaching environments at the South Kensington Campus to better support dynamic learning. The project focused on creating adaptable classrooms that could accommodate lectures, group work, and various teaching styles.

Whiteleys was chosen to supply and install furniture for the Electrical Engineering department, delivering over 1,000 tables and chairs across multiple rooms. The goal was to enhance flexibility, comfort, and efficiency within the learning spaces.

The outcome

After testing several options, the university chose mobile tilt-top tables and stackable chairs as the ideal solution. These pieces allow rooms to be quickly reconfigured and make the most of available space without compromising comfort.

Whiteleys managed the entire supply and installation process to ensure everything was ready for the new academic year. The result is a more versatile and engaging learning environment that meets the needs of both students and instructors—helping Imperial College London deliver a modern, future-ready teaching experience.
